Considering recent policy shifts, specifically regarding “green claims”, we felt it necessary to have our communication around our novel textile materials professionally and third-party validated.
Many thanks to Friederike von Wedel-Parlow and Lavinia Muth from the Beneficial Design Institute for taking the time to scrutinize our claims in this green claim audit.
OceanSafe has always been careful to satisfy both policy and societal needs for transparent and honest communication about our technology. The collaboration with BDI has massively bolstered our confidence in this regard.
Here are our key take-aways:
- Our claims have been checked both against the EU’s Green Claims Directive Proposal and against future greenwashing requirements.
- Substantiated communication and transparency are critical – we will tweak our wording and provide even more information publicly
- Always contextualize what we communicate. What seems obvious to us may not be as obvious to others and could create unfortunate misunderstandings.
- Dare to use more visual elements in our communication.
OceanSafe is an impact startup. Strengthening the credibility of our company and technology is at the core of what we do. That’s why we consider third-party auditing and expert validation to be highly strategic. We will continue to invest in this field.
